Frequently Asked Questions

Here you should find the answers to some questions we get asked a lot. If your question is not listed, feel free to contact us, no question is silly, and we love chatting to you!

Will it hurt?

We are able to treat in a way that is totally relaxing yet we are able to work deeply and specifically. Many people describe the treatment as a good hurt, in a way that it feels that it is making it better and helping. But not in an excruciating way.

How much will it cost?

A fifty minute appointment with Kirsty or Giles on a weekday is £52. We accept cards (with a small fee), cash, cheque and bank transfer. For more information please click here.

When are appointments available?

We are availavle for appointments from 09:00 – 18:30 on Monday to Friday. Each therapist has their own working pattern, but we are always on hand to take your calls.

What clothing should I wear?

The Hendrickson Method can be done through clothes and without oil. Loose comfortable clothing is fine. Gym wear or leggings and a t-shirt are perfect.

Is it the right thing for me?

At Advanced Orthopaedic Therapy our first and foremost concern is what is best for you, as the patient. Therefore, we are happy to determine whether this treatment is the right thing for you. We will initially talk to you on the phone and then through a detailed consultation we will discuss with you what your area of concern is and then be able to establish if we can help. We will, after our consultation and examination, be able to explain our findings and tell you what our approach will be. However, if we feel we are not in a place to help we will try to point you in the direction where you will be able to get help.

Where are you located?

We are located in the village of Much Hadham, between Bishops Stortford and Ware. For driving directions and a map please click here.

How do I book an appointment?

You can book an appointment by calling us on 01279 844 080 or emailing us at Info.aotherapy@gmail.com. For more information click here.

What is The Hendrickson Method?

The Hendrickson Method is an advanced technique combining orthopaedic massage, mobilisation of joints and neuromuscular re-education, which is performed in a pain free, comfortable way.

The Hendrickson Method provides therapy for the joints as well as to muscles, tendons and ligaments. It addresses the source of the pain, rather than just the symptoms. And it provides long term benefits because it helps to bring the body back to optimum function rather than just alleviating the symptoms. The results are a significant relief from pain, enhanced range of movement and function and complete relaxation.

While very gentle, the treatments are also very precise and extremely effective in breaking down adhesions, realigning soft tissue and promoting cellular repair, rehydration of cartilage and normalising muscle and joint function.

It is a highly effective treatment for most Orthopaedic conditions including back pain, whiplash injuries, rotator cuff injuries and knee pain.

How many treatments will I need?

This depends on the diagnosis of your particular problem. Some problems are simple to resolve, therefore the patient may only need one or two sessions. Other people find they feel very much better after a few treatments. Because of the nature of the problem or, perhaps due to the type of job that they do, regular treatment every few months helps them maintain a good quality of life and can prevent problems becoming severe. At your initial consultation your Therapist should be able to indicate how much treatment is likely to be needed. In some cases it may be at your follow up visit, when they have been able to see how you respond to your first treatment, that they will be able to tell you the likely number of sessions needed.

Am I too old to recieve treatment?

No! we have successfully treated many patients in their 80s and 90s. Many now regularly consult us for treatment as Orthopaedic Manual Therapy may help to ease the accompanying symptoms of osteoarthritis.

Are you covered by private insurance companies?

Many private insurance companies cover Orthopaedic Manual Therapy. We suggest you check directly with your own insurance company as each Insurance policy and companies are different. At present we are not Bupa registered but plan on submitting an application as we have had various requests of late.

How will you ensure my data is kept safe?

We take data security very seriously at the injury clinic. We fully comply with the new EU guidelines on GDPR. Our policy can be found by clicking here.
